Prof Eli Katunguka, the Kyambogo university Vice-Chancellor has finally revealed when they expect to reopen for final-year students following President Museveni’s directive to have all final-year scholars resume with their studies.
According to Prof Katunguka, the University is most likely to allow finalists to report on either 20th June or 28th June 2020. Katunguka further explained that they are still studying the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) required by the Ministry Of Education with guidance from the Health Ministry.
However, Katunguka also stated that reopening will depend on the contents and resolutions of two top management meetings set to happen next week.
“We therefore plan to open campus either on June 20th or June 28th .Our final decision on the dates shall be informed by two (2) top management and senate meetings slated for next week,” Prof Katunguka said.
“We need more time to establish the Standard Operating Procedures required by the Ministry of Education before we can receive these finalists . Further, I had instituted a COVID-19 task force to study the situation and report the findings to me. Once these findings are revealed , we can go on to the next step,” Katunguka said.
In a bid to plan for the social distancing as directed by health officials , Katunguka also revealed that they are currently trying to establish how many finalists will be coming back. He also wondered how students from bordering districts will make their way to campus since both public and private transport are still banned in those districts.
