Having participated in the Ugandan music industry for over 20 years, legendary singer Ronald Mayinja has decided to put his concentration on the Political Science course which he is currently pursuing at Makerere University under the adult program.
Mayinja came out last week to announce his exit from Golden Band, an act that he attributed to his busy schedule with books and other businesses. “I decided to quit Golden Band because l am busy lately with school and other duties which make it impossible for me to perform at the band shows and other programs,” Mayinja’s letter partly reads.
Mayinja joined Makerere University in 2017 and he is set to complete his course in 2020, just a year to the next general elections come 2021. Rumor has it that the ‘Obunkenke’ singer is planning to contest as Gomba East Member of Parliament in the next polls.
Mayinja will be joining other entertainers like Kato Lubwama, Bobi Wine, Judith Babirye, who are already in politics. However, he made it clear that he is not quitting music following his exit from Golden band.
From criticizing the government in well-penned ballads to condemning brutal acts, Ronald Mayinja has always showed interest in Politics and joining the Makerere University Political Science class was nothing but a wish granted to his longtime fans.
