Campus Bee has learned of a love affair gone rogue following an incident in Bududa District where a Man reportedly cut off the hand of his 16-year-old senior two (S.2) girlfriend (whose name is undisclosed for anonymity purposes) because she refused to give him consent for her hand in marriage.
The incident, which is under police investigation, happened around 9PM on Friday last week, when the suspect got angry at the victim (the girlfriend) and used a machete to chop off her right hand. The victim further sustained other injuries on her body and is currently admitted at Mbale Regional Referal Hospital.
“He wanted to marry me but I refused because I still want to continue with my studies. This did not go well with him. He became angry at me,” the victim recalled the scenario.
“After chopping off my hand, he took off, leaving me in a pool of blood. It is my friend who called people and they took me to Bududa hospital where they referred me to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital for better management,” she added saying she was in company of her friend.
Campus Bee also further established that the Bududa Central Police had earlier arrested the suspect and released him on unclear grounds.
The victim’s mother, Juliet Khainza accused the police officers of negotiating with the suspect and called upon the Anti- Corruption Unit to intervene into the matter.
“The Police Director of Criminal Investigations Directorate should also intervene and help us to get justice,” Ms Khainza said.
“My daughter has lost her hand and she is in pain. We don’t even have money for her specialized treatment,” she added.
