Shock and grief have engulfed the Mbarara University of Science and Technology community following the sudden death of a student who was reportedly found dead in his hostel room on Monday.
The deceased, identified as Arnold Dushime, was a first-year student pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Finance (BSAF) under the Faculty of Business and Management Sciences.
According to information from fellow students, concern started after Arnold failed to appear for a morning examination paper. His classmates reportedly became worried when repeated attempts to reach him were unsuccessful.
After the exam, some students reportedly went to check on him at his hostel room, where they found him unresponsive.
Unconfirmed reports from colleagues suggest that he may have fallen inside the room, although the exact cause of death had not yet been officially established by press time.

His body was later taken to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.
In a condolence notice released by the university, the Dean of Students, Ambrose K. Mugisha, described the incident as untimely and heartbreaking for the university community.
News of Arnold’s death quickly spread across campus, leaving many students shocked and saddened, especially classmates and friends who had interacted with him shortly before the incident.
The university said burial arrangements and other details would be communicated later.
Students and staff have continued to send condolences and messages of comfort to the deceased’s family during this difficult time.
