Family members of the late Daniel Babara,22, today expressed bitterness and dissatisfaction at the services at our national referral hospital, Mulago. Julius Bagonza, Daniel’s Uncle said that no doctor or even nurse was available to save the life of their son when his friends rushed him to Mulago Hospital Intensive Care Unit after he was shot by a security guard at Buloba beach.
“When we reached Mulago, there was no single medical personnel in the whole intensive care unit of our so-called ‘national referral hospital, Mulago’ not even the receptionist was on duty. We carried Daniel and put him on the floor. There were no stretchers. No single doctor was present to declare whether he was dead or not, because civilians are not in any way allowed to pronounce someone dead before the doctors examines the victim,” Bagonza painfully told the congregation during a requiem mass today at All Saints Cathedral Church, Nakasero.
Babara was set to graduate this November with a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science. He was the captain of UMU Flames, the university basketball team. He will be laid to rest today in his ancestral home at Fort Portal.
