Following a story that we published few days ago, the Makerere University Convocation team has officially come out to reveal their plans of constructing a ramp for people/students with disabilities (PWDs). According to an official statement released by the Convocation, building a ramp for such students is among their top priorities and urged the public to donate more funds towards the completion of the perimeter wall.
“We would like to let you know that the Convocation is fully aware of this concern (PWDs) and it’s on its priority list. Our Members, Students and Community should know that the Convocation has PWDs at heart and for your information the Chairman Dr. Odoi-Tanga has been serving as the Patron of PWDs at Makerere University for some years. We also understand their rights and privileges,” part of the document from Convocation reads.

Meanwhile, the Makerere University Vice Chancellor Professor Barnabas Nawangwe has also come out to show his concern regarding this matter and revealed that building stairs instead of a ramp was a big mistake.
The architect Professor went ahead to reveal that this mistake will soon be fixed, “The construction of stairs instead of a ramp was an unfortunate oversight by the builders. This is not supposed to be like that and we should get it fixed immediately. All concerned officers have been notified. #SaveDisabledStudents” Nawangwe posted.
The newly built stairs were constructed at Makerere University’s small gate with a major aim of blocking Boda Bodas from entering the University premises.
