School of Engineering at Makerere University has formulated stringent conditions for students, specifically under the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering ahead of the Online assessments which are slated to start on September 13.
Seen by Campus Bee, these regulations released by the said school will govern the modalities under which the scheduled exams will be conducted by the engineering students.
It should be noted that the administration engaged various colleges to choose the best modes of assessments from a variety of options including group assignments, individual take home assignments, tests or questions with options, among others.
Much as most colleges/schools have taken up online exams as the best fit for the assessments, a number of others are still engaging students to come to a suitable and conclusive mode of conducting the semester assesment.
Below are some of the rules and regulations from the school of Engineering – Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering that the Bee has extracted;
- The exam will be available for download from MUELE and answered on A4 ruled paper.
- The student will then scan the answer sheets into one pdf and upload unto MUELE before the time for the exam expires. Extra time will be provided for upload on top of the 3 hours for the exam.
- Pdf scanning apps will need to be download onto phones.
- The exam will be sat under exam conditions in a quit room with invigilation being done via zoom.
- Students will need two devices a laptop to access the MUELE portable and a smart phone or tab for invigilation via zoom.
- Each student will need a smart phone or any other device with a camera with internet access. This will be placed in a position for invigilators to be able to see the students environment to ensure student is not copying from notes , getting external help or browsing the internet except for the MUELE window on their laptop.
- Students will have to show their university ID to the camera to confirm their identity.
- All Audio shall be muted during the exam and students shall only communicate via chat directly only to the host (invigilator). No private chat will be allowed between students via zoom during the exam.
- The student will need a quiet well lit room with no interruptions from anybody during the exam.
- The desk or work station should be free of any material except the answer sheet, pens, pencils, calculator and drinking water.
- The exam is 3 hours but the zoom session shall be open 30 mins earlier for students to show their student IDs, position the camera , login into MUELE , scan the room to show they are alone with no books or notes stuck on wallls, etc. extra 15-20 mins will be added at the end of the exam for scanning and uploading the answer sheet. In the event of MUELE crashing, an alternative email will then be provided for submission of the exam.
The rules further require students to indicate (on their answer sheets) details including Student number, Registration number, name, Date, Degree, Course Code, Course unit name, Confirm if it’s a retake or not on the a answer sheet cover page.
It should be noted that the above regulations are subject to change as students through their leaders express mixed feelings about the said modalities to the respective departments.
