Most of the universities including Makerere University, Kyambogo, Mbarara University among others last week, released government sponsorship admission lists for undergraduate level and as usual, many jubilated and many were disappointed as well.
But hey, here’s some good news for whoever has good grades but didn’t make it to the above lists, there is a ‘plan-B’ to tackle the University financial worries and below, we explain the different schemes to support financially constrained students:
Higher Education Students Financing Board (HESFB) Loan Scheme
HESFB Loan Scheme was established by the Higher Education Students Financing Act, as a body to provide Loans and Scholarships to Ugandan students who are unable to support themselves financially. The MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program (limited to Makerere)

Tertiary Education Scholarship Trust (TEST) Uganda
TEST for UGANDA scholarships are available for studies in many subjects which the local Trustees deem to be appropriate for future national socio-economic development of Uganda. For details on the application, visit https://www.testforafrica.org/Uganda-Students/
Higher Education Access Program (HEAP) Uganda
HEAP provides bursaries to academically able, yet economically disadvantaged students from eastern, northern and western Uganda to access and complete higher education. For more details on the Programme, visit https://www.faweuganda.org/2019/programs/higher-education-access-program-heap/
