The Makerere University Students Disciplinary Committee has ordered the immediate reinstatement of Siperia Mollie, a Makerere student who was suspended by the university management for leading a strike over the 15% tuition increment.
The decision was reached yesterday following the disciplinary committee’s verdict indicating that Siperia is an innocent student.
Siperia appeared before the committee chaired by His Worship Precious Beinga Ngabirano together with other suspended students who showed up to find out more about the body’s final decision. The Committee noted that it couldn’t find any merit in the case against the student (Siperia) based on her Facebook posts compiled by the Makerere University management.
“We have looked at the file and the charge and the posts of social media as basis for the charge. The posts don’t disclose the offense stated and therefore the student has no case to answer. We order that the suspension be lifted. Formal write up for lifting her suspension to be sent,” Ngabirano ruled.
It should be recalled that the Dean of Students, Cyriaco Kabagambe referred Siperia to the Disciplinary Committee on November 5, 2019 in line with regulation 6(5) (e) of the Makerere Student’s Regulations, 2015.
Siperia was suspended with 9 other students on October 22nd, 2019 for allegedly inciting violence against Prof Eria Hisali, the Principal College of Business and Management Sciences and Gordon Murangira, the Personal Assistant to the Vice-Chancellor.
The other suspended students include ; Musiri David, Kyeyune Ivan, Mutatina Seiz, Dhabona Job, Ssenoga Simon, Frank Bwambale, Rogers Mbajjo Ssebiraalo, and Derrick Ojambo Wabwire.
Simon Ssenoga was also cleared.
