According to fresh mid-year (2021) rankings of the top universities in Africa as conducted by QS World University Rankings, Makerere University has been placed in 16th position, beating their regional counterparts – University of Nairobi (UoN) who stand in the 21st position.
The rankings were conducted on a basis of Academic Reputation (40%), Employer Reputation(10%), Faculty-Student Ratio(20%), Citations per faculty(20%), International Faculty Ratio (5%) and finally International Student Ratio(5%).
The performance of other Ugandan Universities has not been included in the latest rankings by QS World University Rankings, leaving some kind of uncertainity, but one thing we know for sure, Mbarara University of Science and Technology recently received a certificate as the second best University in Uganda as per academic Performance.

Its public knowledge now that the COVID-19 pandemic has greatly affected performance and activities of universities in Uganda and across the globe, with academic calenders being revised time and again to fit the new normal.
Being the only international ranking to have received International Ranking Expert Group (IREG) approval, the QS ranking is viewed as one of the three most-widely read university rankings in the world, according to giant information bank – Wikipedia.
