News just reaching the Hive indicates that two 65-inch Hisense TV screens were stolen from the intern’s halls of residence in Mbarara University of Science and Technology. It is reported that the TV screens were stolen in the early hours of Sunday morning.
This comes a week after the semester kicked off and has brought a pause to the entertainment life of the students in the intern’s residence to what they call ‘code red.’
“The security of the electronic appliances in this residence has been a point of concern for a very long time. It’s no surprise that thieves came and carried away the TVs without being noticed because it has always been free entrance and exit here. We need regulations put in place on the visitors” said one of the hall residents who preferred anonymity.
As last semester was concluding, another TV was stolen from the Boys’ Hall of residence popularly known as ‘Gents Flat”. This has raised security concern all over the University premises as vehicles parked within the compound during the night could also be bait to the burglers.
The speaker of the Guild Representative Council (GRC) reportedly announced preparation for a meeting between the affected halls’ students and Guild Representatives to discuss how better they can tighten the security of these halls and forward the grievances to the University Public Affairs office, if need be.
