Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) Executive Director Hon. Nyombi Thembo has challenged emerging leaders to embrace responsible leadership and communication as technology continues to reshape governance, national security and development.
Hon. Nyombi made the remarks over the weekend while serving as Guest of Honour at the pass-out ceremony of 31 emerging leaders at the National Leadership Institute (NALI), Kyankwanzi.
The leaders had completed a two-week leadership and communication course at the institute.
Delivering the Lecture of Honour, Nyombi spoke on the theme “Statecraft in the Age of Intelligent Connectivity,” highlighting the changing nature of leadership in an increasingly digital and interconnected world.
He emphasised the growing importance of effective communication, leadership and public trust, particularly as digital technologies increasingly influence how governments engage with citizens and respond to national challenges.
The UCC Executive Director noted that the rapid growth of digital connectivity presents both opportunities and responsibilities for leaders, requiring them to understand how information shapes public opinion, governance and national stability.
He also underscored the importance of maintaining public trust in an environment where information moves rapidly and where leaders are increasingly required to communicate across digital platforms.
The engagement at NALI comes as Uganda continues to strengthen leadership capacity and promote responsible communication amid rapid technological change.
The participation of the UCC Executive Director at the ceremony also highlighted the Commission’s role in promoting responsible communication and supporting efforts to build a more informed and digitally connected society.
The 31 participants graduated after completing the leadership and communication programme, equipped with skills intended to strengthen their leadership and communication capabilities in their respective areas of responsibility.
