The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has described quiz competitions as an effective way of educating the public and young people, saying they can communicate useful information more effectively than relying solely on dramatized programmes.
Speaking during the Ultimate University Quiz Season Four activities in Luwero District, Ibrahim Bbosa, Head of Public and International Relations at UCC, said interactive platforms such as quiz contests provide an engaging avenue for passing important information to the public.
“Platforms like this quiz contest is one good way of passing over useful information to the public other than using dramatization,” Bbosa said.
UCC is sponsoring the fourth season of the Ultimate University Quiz, a competition that brings together university students to test their knowledge, quick thinking and ability to communicate.
The Commission said the initiative goes beyond competition, describing it as a “dynamic classroom” where issues including cybersecurity, digital safety, innovation and national development can be brought closer to young people.
‘THE FUTURE DOES NOT WAIT’
UCC said young people need more than academic knowledge to navigate an increasingly digital world.
“The future does not wait for young people who only know. It rewards those who can think quickly, communicate clearly, and apply knowledge responsibly,” the Commission said.
According to UCC, every question in the quiz presents an opportunity to spark curiosity and share useful information, while contestants represent Uganda’s potential for the future.
“This is more than a contest; it is a dynamic classroom where cybersecurity, digital safety, innovation, and national development come alive,” UCC said.
BATTLE OF MINDS
The Commission said its sponsorship of the fourth season is part of efforts to promote knowledge and responsible engagement among young people.
The competition is expected to challenge university students to think critically while expanding their understanding of issues that affect them and society at large.
“Every question sparks curiosity, every answer shares useful information, and every contestant represents Uganda’s promise,” UCC said.
The Commission urged participants to embrace the competition as an opportunity to learn, engage and demonstrate their ability to apply knowledge responsibly.
“Let the battle of minds begin!” UCC said.
