The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) is set to recognise outstanding talent in Uganda’s film industry as the Uganda Film Festival (UFF) 2026 returns for its latest edition under the theme “Transformation: The Power of Local Stories.”
The festival, running from August 21 to 28, 2026, is bringing together filmmakers, actors, industry professionals and audiences for a week-long celebration of Ugandan cinema.
The programme features film screenings in participating cinemas, workshops and industry forums, providing opportunities for filmmakers and other players in the creative sector to showcase their work, exchange ideas and engage with audiences.
The festival will culminate in the UFF 2026 Awards Gala on Friday, August 28, where outstanding achievements and talent in Uganda’s film industry will be recognised.
According to UCC, the awards are intended to celebrate the creativity, talent and achievements of filmmakers who continue to contribute to the growth and transformation of Uganda’s film industry.
The 2026 edition places particular emphasis on the power of locally produced stories and the role of the film industry in shaping Uganda’s cultural identity and creative economy.
Beyond the awards, the festival’s workshops and forums are expected to provide a platform for industry players to connect, share knowledge and explore opportunities for the development of Uganda’s film sector.
UFF 2026 is being supported by UCC and MultiChoice, with the festival encouraging audiences to experience Ugandan films on the big screen while celebrating the people behind the country’s growing cinema industry.
The festival comes at a time when Uganda’s film and television industry continues to produce stories that reflect local experiences, culture and contemporary society.
The Awards Gala on August 28 is invite-only, according to the festival programme.
