The Guild Election results of Uganda Christian University, Mbale Campus have been nullified by the Electoral Appeals board committee following a joint appeal by, Jacqueline Ajego and Ben Francis Kidongo to the Guild Electoral Commission citing irregularities during the election process.
The elections, which were held on November 2nd, at the Mbale- based Campus ended in confusion when Yonasani Bululu was announced the winner after defeating his competitor Jacqueline Ajego with just five votes.
More details show that Bululu gathered 301 votes, Jacqueline Ajego 296 votes while Ben Francis Kidongo also lost with 204 votes. The two losers (Ajego and Kidongo) complained that some voters (students) were denied to vote because they did not appear in the register.
Following a petition that was forwarded to the Electoral Appeals Board committee for hearing, the Guild’s Returning Officer, Martha Apio officially communicated on Tuesday November 13th that the Electoral Appeals Board Committee has finally nullified Bululu’s victory.
Despite the communication that there will be fresh elections this Friday, Bululu has vowed that he will consult his lawyer and block the planned elections.
We will update you about this Friday’s elections.
