Currently, most of the Ugandan Universities are still finding ways of adapting to online system of studies due to the lockdown brought by the increase in the spread of Coronavirus.
On the other side, various Guild leaders are appealing to the Government to find ways of giving back to students by reducing on the tuition and other fees charged to students.
As this is going on, Uganda Christian University (UCU) has slashed functional fees by 37% which were supposed to be paid by students under trinity intake.
This was revealed by the Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Finance and Administration Mr. David Mugawe in a memo to the entire UCU community Factoring in the lockdown, the functional fees for this trinity semester shall be adjusted from 983,000/= to 618,000/=, He communicated.
However, Mr Mugawe said that students are expected to pay the same tuition fees since studies have been going on via UCU online platforms. All tuition fees remain unchanged since teaching and learning has continued online. Youre therefore all encouraged to pay your tuition fees in time by the tuition deadline of 2nd August 2021 as examinations begin on 9th August 2021, the memo reads further.
On the issue of students of students who were residing within university halls, Mr Mugawe said that their unutilised fees will be fefunded back to them.
For the students who had already paid boarding fees, the unitilized balance shall be credited to the students respective account or reimbursed to the student upon completion for the finalists, He concluded.
