Following their peaceful strike against tuition increment, a group of Uganda Christian University students’ leaders have been summoned to student’s disciplinary committee over the demonstration. The people summoned are the guild president, Pius Nyikirize, MP BPAM, sports minister, general Secretary, president law society, Semuwamba Simon.
They are to meet the disciplinary committee on Thursday at 9:00am.
“This is the level of Justice in our institution, seeking to know, transparency and accountability is now a crime after being taught to promote transparency and accountability,” Semuwamba Simon, the UCU Law Society President fumed.
“Seeking to know why the increments of 13% instead of 5% is now a crime Ladies and gentlemen out there, I hereby stand to call on you not to get intimidated. We are more than ready to stand for what we believe in, regardless of the cost and defend our cause. And so much ready for their verdict, and then proceed to court. God being our helper, as a matter of fact the Thursday summoning is filled with loopholes to have our cause of action in the courts of law.
God being our helper I refuse to machivellean policies of tuition increment yet I am not consulted through my leaders of the policies to be passed, and even have poor quality services delivered unto me. I choose peace expression of my disaffection.
Which I did, and will stand for, of which this is guaranteed in my constitution under Article 29, protected under Article 2, and vehemently enshrined in the case of Onyango Obbo, Andrew Mwenda, Ivan Bwowe Makerere University, and many cases,” Semuwamba rattled.
We shall keep you posted.
