A total of four students at Uganda Christian University (UCU) have scooped post graduate scholarships in law at George Town University in the United States (US).
The four students, identified as Jemimah Jehopio, Bridget Ruth Kasobya, Veronica Nekesa Namyalo, and Isaac Sebulime won 32,274 USD (about Shs. 119.4M) each.
The University Communications Officer, Mr. Frank Obonyo said the prize won by each of the students accounts for half tuition scholarship in the recently held John H. Jackson Moot Court Competition.
“Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the John H Jackson moot competition, which was supposed to be conducted head to head at Africa Regional level in Nairobi and the international moot sessions in Geneva, Switzerland was held online” Mr. Obonyo said
The full tuition scholarship at the George Town University costs 64,548 USD (about shs. 238.8M)and the students won half of that amount.
With their qualification at the international moot competition, UCU became the first Ugandan University to reach that milestone.
Rev. Canon Dr. John Senyonyi, the UCU Vice Chancellor, lauded the students for their spirit to chase the top spot in the Moot competition amid Coronavirus pandemic.
The theme of this year’s Moot competition was Clinical Legal Education globally and supporting the development of trade between nations.
