Police in Kabale are probing the controversial circumstances surrounding the death of a 47-year-old woman who allegedly ended her life by hanging.
The deceased, identified as Gloria Uwimana, a Masters degree student of Uganda Martyrs University and wife to Emmanuel Arineitwe, residents of Kamukira cell Kirigime ward Southern Division in Kabale municipality, Kabale district.
It is alleged that the deceased woke up at around 6 am, prompting the husband to question where she was heading in the wee hours.
The wife informed her suspicious husband that she had pending coursework to finish up and submit at the campus.
The husband saw her move from their bedroom to the sitting room.
A couple of hours later time, when he woke up at around 08:40 hours, moved into the sitting room, getting a difficult time as he only found the phone and eye glasses of the wife at the table.
This incident occured on Saturday March 30, 2024.
Inquiring from their daughter, Kirabo Faith, the whereabouts of their mother, Arineitwe found out that she (wife) had gone to her shop.
It is said that Arineitwe received a call from Augustine Muwanika, one of the tenants, informing him that his wife had hanged herself to death from the business house.
ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi region police publicist, said police were accordingly alerted, and the Homicide team visited and documented the scene of crime.
“Witness statements were recorded and the body taken to Kabale regional referral hospital mortuary for postmortem which was done and the results showed death by hanging, which was very unfortunate,” said Maate in a statement on on Saturday afternoon.
Police urge people to always seek services from relevant offices for counseling instead of resorting to termination of their individual lives, which Maate condemned.
He noted that investigations are ongoing to establish the empirical cause of the disturbing incident.
