The afternoon of Monday 9th May saw the long awaited Entebbe Derby between University of Kisubi (widely known as The church boys) and Nkumba University football team also known as The Beach Boys at Kisubi arena.
The game that ended 1-0 in favor of Nkumba gave football fans a great deal of entertainment.
The fans were at the center stage before the game started. Nkumba University students took over the Kisubi Arena with deafening noise from vuvuzelas, dancing around the playground as they chanted their campus name.
Within the 20th minute of the first half, Biko Bage netted the first and only goal of the game after a well articulated wave of passes from Nkumba side.
The Church boys rose to the occasion in the second half where they got good chances but failed to convert into the net past the Nkumba goalkeeper.
According to Bbosa Sulaiman, Nkumba University Head Coach, his players were very wasteful in today’s game and he hopes to improve in the next games.
“We had over five chances that the boys failed to convert but we are going to improve on that.” He said.
Louis Kizito, the University of Kisubi Head coach believes that his team has constantly failed to control their nerves especially at the start of the game.
“This is not the end of it all. We can still go to Nkumba and get that win. We even still have chances of winning all our next games.” He consoled.
Group B now has Makerere University Business School at the top with 9 points, Nkumba in second position with 9 points from four games while University of Kisubi is in the third position with 3 points from four games and Muni University with no points from 4 games.
