According to Chris Baryomunsi, the ICT and National Guidance Minister, Cabinet has approved salary increment for lecturers in public universities. Baryomunsi added that a decision to pay lecturers UGX 12.2 million every month was made on Monday, during Cabinet’s recent seating.
Cabinet also agreed to enhance salaries for health professionals, science teachers and tutors. The move was done in a bid to build a knowledge-based economy, according to the Minister.
Recently, President Museveni advised that salaries for medical practitioners should be enhanced as a move to develop Uganda using a science-led development strategy.
In June this year, Museveni agreed to pay professors Shs15m per month, senior medical consultants (Shs17m), university lecturers (Shs12.2m), and doctors (Shs5m).
According to statistics, an intern gets Shs940, 000 gross salary, a medical officer (Shs3m) and a senior consultant (Shs7.3m).
Among other issues, Cabinet noted the strategic interventions geared towards the improvement of the level of broadband connectivity and affordability in Uganda.
