15 girls from four universities were yesterday (Sunday June 26) gifted with cameras after a three-day training on photography that was held at Forest Cottages hotel in Bukoto.
The four universities included Makerere University, Kampala International University, Uganda Christian University, and Kampala University.

In a training that was headed by Ms. Amina Mohammad, the Executive Director of Camera for Girls Foundation, university girls were equipped with Photography skills that majority have not acquired at their respective universities.
“You may find that it is very hard to access the institution cameras to practice photography, you will be required to first sign for them and yet you are given limited time before you take them back” Sandra Agwico from UCU told this reporter yesterday.
Ms Amina encouraged the beneficiaries of the program to keep practicing with the cameras she handed over to them Sunday evening.
“You will be required to present five to ten images on a monthly basis, with doing this, your skills will be enhancing,” she said.
She added that failure to submit the photos by any of the girls, they will be required to return back the cameras,
“You have to keep taking photos whenever you get an opportunity, and those pictures should be submitted on time for grading.
“Mercy Grace Kyomuhendo, a Makerere University student was over the moon for the camera she received, “provided I now own my ever first camera in life, I will use it purposely to perfect in photography.”
This was the third time of training girls in Uganda, the first cohorts being in 2018, 2019 before COVID-19 came. The Cameras For Girls has trained 42 young university girls of which 55 percent of them now have full time jobs.
One of the beneficiaries of the program, Ms. Brandy Azeirwe works with Ministry of ICT and National Guidance in the communications department. She was trained by Amina in 2019.
Camera for Girls is a Canadian Charity born out of the sheer will to empower females across Africa, using photography as a medium.
