A team of students from different universities in Uganda under their organization, Makutano, have organized a one-day health camp for the locals of Kasanje village in Wakiso District scheduled to take place tomorrow from 8:00a.m. till late.
The health camp organized by the students in partnership with the Red Cross, Uganda Cares and Wakiso District, among other partners will be offering free health care services like blood testing, counseling, referrals and health sensitization, among others. The services will be offered alongside a blood donation exercise that will also last the entire day.
When contacted for a comment, Ssempala Edgar, the coordinator of the health camp and a 3rd year student of law at Makerere University expressed optimism that Makutano’s selfless gesture to the community of Kasanje will greatly improve the health of the beneficiaries.
“Makutano believes that the health camp will not only present a golden for the locals of Kasanje to get professional advice from our partner organizations about their health issues but also encourage them to lead a healthy lifestyle.” said Mr. Ssempala.
So how exactly did they pull it off?
“Well, we collected money from amongst ourselves as members of Makutano which we used to take care of the logistics necessary to pull off a successful health camp. Our partners, on the other hand, have provided us with their staff and the medical expertise needed to respond to the health issues of the Kasanje community.” he explained.
