The Uganda National Students Association (UNSA) has asked the government for shs3 billion to cater for the high number of candidates in the country that don’t have mathematical sets. This was at a press conference held in Kampala.
The UNSA President Jonathan Burobuto stated that 87% of the senior four and senior six candidates they visited in 81 schools do not have mathematical sets yet they are preparing for their final examinations.
“Our MPs were recently given shs3million each to go and campaign in the LC1 elections. In Rukungiri and Bugiri it has spent over 5 billion and shs3billiion respectively.
You have failed to provide sanitary pads. You promised laptops you didn’t provide them. How do we talk about competition with other countries yet primary school kids in Rwanda and Kenya are using tablets yet in Uganda, an S6 candidate doesn’t even have a mathematical set. We want to request the government that as they are looking for the shs185 billion to provide security for MPs, they also provide just shs3billion to solve this problem,” he said.
It should be noted that the Uganda National Students Association is the umbrella organization for all students in post primary institutions in Uganda and Ugandan students studying abroad. President Yoweri Museveni is the Patron of the Association.
