Muwanika Conelius, a student from Nkumba University yesterday stormed the university with a mattress and jerrycan to demonstrate over high tuition since they are set to kick off online studies later this month.
A source has notified the Bee that Muwanika, who wanted to meet the university’s Vice Chancellor was grabbed and whisked away before meeting the top official. Muwanika wants the university to slash tuition since students will be studying remotely following the continued closure of universities as a measure set to curb the spread of COVID-19.
“Where is the Vice Chancellor, we need to speak with the Vice Chancellor, aliwa?” Muwanika shouted while trying to make his way into the university premises.
Campus Bee understands that Nkumba University is scheduled to kick off online lectures on 30th August but tuition and other fees at the university remain the same. Muwanika and other students claim this is unfair.
“That guy in the video was demonstrating about the fees policy of Nkumba University. The university didn’t reduce on the amount of tuition and yet we are starting online studies in this given month starting 30th.” A source told this writer.
Action!! Action!! Were the words Muwanika chanted before he was taken to an unknown destination.
