It was a bitter moment at Makerere University main building where a number of students took their complaints after missing out on the graduation list slated for 16th – 19th this January. These students were seen both outside and inside the main building trying to make their points clear to the nearby officials while others were seen crying.
“We are not leaving, it’s not our fault, we studied for three good years, we did everything. Exams, tests and all that, we paid tuition on time but they are telling us we cannot graduate, is it our fault really?” one bitter female student wailed.
When they tried reaching the concerned officials, these students were told that the system is down but none of this would convince them well enough, “Right now they are telling us that the system is down, me I swear I want to graduate, that’s all I need. I don’t need the transcript, transcripts can be followed up any time, but right now I need graduation, whatever it is, let it be when I want to graduate, finished,” another crying student wailed while seated outside the main building.
They were later seen speaking with a yet to be identified professor who they told that last year the graduation list was edited three days to graduation, something they think should be done this year as well, “Last year, if you can remember professor, they made additions to that book three days to graduation but we still have seven days, they should make additions to that list,” one male student suggested.
Apparently, these students were on last Friday told to come back on Monday so that this matter can be resolved. It was beyond their anticipation when they were told that they have already issued out the book without their names, “We came on Friday, they told us come back on Monday we are going to sort out everything but now telling us there is nothing to be done, we’ve already issued out the book, that is crap, we are going to do something and they put us in the list,” one of the students whose name is missing on the graduation list warned.
