The strike at Makerere University is on day three and it is not looking pretty both with the university and in the neighbouring areas of Kikoni and Kikumi Kikumi.
In fresh videos that we have obtained, Police Officers assigned to quell the demonstrations at Makerere University are seen smashing glass windows of students in University Hall near Wandegeya and pouring teargas inside.
The students are striking because of the cumulative tuition policy that was introduced last year whereby, within five years, tuition will have increased by a whooping 75%. The university management has denied the tuition increment citing that it affects only the joining years and they’re not complaining.
