Vodafone Uganda has fired all its university brand ambassadors without pay, Campus Bee has learned. The shocking revelation was revealed through a Twitter hashtag #PayUgandansBuildUganda where a former Vodafone brand ambassador (names withheld) tweeted how the telecom giant has unceremoniously terminated all its contracts with the University brand ambassadors.
According to this former ambassador, Over 150 university students have been laid off and have not been paid for the last three months, “Vodafone has not paid over 150 brand ambassadors since November and now they are terminating their contracts. We told them about it in a meeting instead of working on our pleas, they threatened to fire anyone who was not willing to work anymore,” an aggrieved former Vodafone brand ambassador who preferred anonymity revealed.
It is said that some of Vodafone’s University brand ambassadors were last paid in October 2017. The disgruntled former brand ambassador revealed that the Kololo based telecom company contractually agreed to pay them shs20,000 for every four hours.
Incidents like switching off the masts, auctioning company assets, and the departure of heads of finance, marketing managers, and the CEO makes the rumor of Vodafone closing shop in Uganda hold some water.

In a letter sent by Vodafone’s Head of Human Resource Christine Sekyana to the sacked ambassadors, she clearly stated that the youthful ambassadors “return the company’s property including Mi-fi, tablets, phones, Identity cards among others.”
In this letter, Sekyana also mentions about Vodafone’s decision to terminate its contract with the ambassadors with effect from seven days of the letter’s issuance and did not specify the reason for the contract’s termination.
According to Sekyana, Vodafone will pay all the arrears it owes its ambassadors in accordance to clause 12 (d) of the agreement. At the moment, Vodafone now operates on only one floor, a company that used to operate on 4 floors.
