Makerere University’s 89th guild president Maseruka Robert has made his first public address about the flop of the freshers ball.
In his address to the students made on October 15th, Maseruka said they are frustrated by the university administration.
Maseruka said the university management released new guidelines for the freshers ball on Friday (October 13) morning contrary to guidelines he had been given earlier.
In the new guidelines, which the Bee has been able to see, the university secretary Yusuf Kiranda told the student leaders that the Freshers ball must run from 4pm to 7pm. Maseruka says the new guidelines are partially to blame for the flop of the freshers ball.
“Gallant Makerereans, We are frustrated and I want to state again that, as the 89th, we will not organise an event that ends at 7pm,” Maseruka said.
On the delayed preparations, Maseruka says one of the main sponsors quit on Thursday night and this brought in some disorganisation as they panicked to find a replacement.
Maseruka told the students that they will have the freshers ball sooner and it will be bigger and better.
“I have come to assure you that sooner we are are going to have the freshers ball of Makerere University returned bigger and better,” he said.
Makerere University Freshers ball 2023 had been slated for Friday October 13th, 2023; however, the event failed to kick-off due to several reasons as highlighted by the guild president.
