Makerere University’s New Nana hostel in Wandegeya has started sending out text messages to its residents informing them that checking in has been postponed as they await government’s decision to reopen schools.
“New Nana Hostel clients are hereby informed that check in at the hostel is postponed as we wait for an official decision from government on reopening of learning institutions,” a message sent to Nana residents reads.”
The communication has come few days after the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) informed higher institutions to wait for another three months as the government comes up with a long lasting solution to education amid COVID-19 pandemic.
Campus Bee has received several inquiries from students who wonder what will happen to those who had already cleared hostel fees. Nana Hostel however has not communicated whether they will refund the money back to those who had cleared already.
Some hostels in Wandegeya charge a booking fee of UGX 100,000 and most continuing students had already paid the fee, this website has learnt.
NCHE further informed institutions that only final year students should be allowed to report, adding that the rest should teach students online.
