Former Chief of Defence Forces/ Army Commander and current Minister of Works and Transport Gen. Katumba Wamala has expressed concern by the government to halt public transportation again as the country deals with the coronavirus pandemic.
The Minister, in a tweet, revealed that government and himself are worried by acts done by public transport operators especially boda boda cyclists and taxi operators since it has come to attention of the government that they’re not obeying COVID-19 guidelines.
“Fellow Ugandans, it has come to my attention that some taxi operators and motorists are not obeying the #COVID-19 guidelines in place.” Gen Wamala said.
The Minister further admitted that with the increasing cases of community transmissions, government may be forced to halt public transport again.
Results from COVID-19 tests done on 15 August, 2020 showed 66 new COVID-19 cases that were confirmed. The cumulative total confirmed cases of Ugandans are now 1,500 53, Of those, 30 were from Kampala, 6 from Namisindwa and 7 from Wakiso.
