Under the Umbrella Forum for Academic Staff of Public Universities (FASPU) and the non-teaching staff under the Public Universities Non-Teaching Staff Executive Forum (PUTISEF), the two groups have vowed to lay down their tools come next academic year kicking off in August.
The teaching and non-teaching staff members from nine public universities announced a nationwide strike yesterday following the government’s failure to fulfil its promises of enhancing their salaries and payment of their arrears in the just presented budget for the financial year 2018/2019.
Apparently, these officials demand over UGX 138 billion from the government and they insist that they will not return to their respective workstations next semester if the state does not pay them off their money.
Among the lecturers expected to strike include those from Makerere University (who have vowed to strike a number of times), Kyambogo University, Gulu University among other Ugandan public universities.
