Makerere University fresh graduates who graduated during the university’s 71st graduation ceremony in May have started filling Nawangwe’s social media comments section with questions about the progress of their transcripts.
The jobless young people, who badly want to kick off job hunting want the university to issue their transcrips despite the current 42-day lockdown imposed to curb the spread of COVID-19,”
“Boss we need our transcripts” A one Kaweesi Joudrec commented on Nawangwe’s post about the World Health Summit.
“Good work but we need academic updates. We need to know the progress of our transcripts and the way forward,” Another graduate with Facebook username’ Cleo Bae’ commented.
According to Nawangwe, over 12,000 fresh graduates will have to wait longer for their academic transcripts because there is no staff at campus to print them due to Covid-19 restrictions.
“The transcript papers might come but people are not working. People are at home. They have no permits to come to work,” Nawangwe told Daily Monitor last week.
Campus Bee has however learnt that university officials picked 30,000 copies of transcript blanks from Entebbe International Airport on Tuesday last week. It is said that the materials only cover transcripts for two academic years, including those who graduated last month (2020/2021 academic year) and those slated to graduate in the 72nd ceremony.
Prof Nawangwe, who is now relieved after securing the materials revealed that the university will notify graduates once the transcripts are ready.
