After successfully blocking over 25 pornography websites from being accessed in Uganda, the Kampala International University (KIU) Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Dr. Annette Kezaabu who also doubles as the chairperson for the Pornography Control Committee has spoken out.
Kezaabu has revealed that they are working with telecommunication companies to make sure that more porn sites are identified and blocked in a bid to wipe pornography out of the country.
“As I speak, we have a team that is compiling a list of other porn sites that will be blocked. We anticipate that some people will open up new sites but this is a continuous process.” Dr. Kezaabu said. She further explained that her team will send the list to telecommunication companies and the sites will be blocked instantly.
Her comments have come following a move made by telecommunication companies to block 25 pornography websites out of the banned 27 in fulfilment of the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) orders.
It is said that the banned websites cannot be accessed by mobile phones in Uganda but however people with VPNs can still access them.
The blocked sites include; Pornhub.com, Xvideos.com, Youporn.com massagerepublic.com, escortsinkampala.com, exoticuganda.com, travelgirls.com, worldescortindex.com, wikisexguide.com, escort24h.net/, guysnightlife.com, selectanescort.com, queensescortservices.com, escort.guide/Uganda, uganda.topescortbabaes.com and swingers.theadulthub.com.
According to Section 13 of the Anti-Pornography Act 2014, a person shall not produce, traffic in, publish, broadcast, procure, import, export, sell or abet any form of pornography and anyone who commits such is liable, on conviction, to a fine of Shs10m or imprisonment not exceeding 10 years.
