The Domestic Violence Coalition are assuring their support for Kabarole Women Legislator Sylvia Rwabwogo. This is after she came under fire and scrutiny when she took a one student of YMCA Jinja student, Isiiko Brian to court over stalking and making sexual advances. He was then convicted and sentenced to two years for harassing the legislator.
These women activists are further asking parliament to immediately pass the Sexual offences bill to fight the increasing sexual harassment and other forms of violence against women and girls. The activists also want the judiciary to fulfill their promise of establishing specialized Gender Based Violence courts to ensure that Justice system conducts timely investigations and rulings.
However Men activists have also fought for the plight of their own Brian Isiiko and are preparing an appeal. Muhabuzi Lauben from the Mens Forum against Domentic Violence said that they would look at the evidence that court based on to convict and sentence Isiko. “Isiko is a young man in his ripe age of looking for a partner,he is free to try out anyone he feels with.”
