Last evening was yet another sad moment for the Makerere University community when it was discovered that this year’s World Health Summit Regional Meeting has been postponed to an unknown date over Corona Virus.
It should be recalled that Makerere University has been warming to make history as they host this year’s summit. Makerere was already fired up to be the first ever African host of this summit after winning the bid.
According to a statement shared on the university’s social platforms, the organizers of the summit who are based in German will decided when the meeting will be held.
“We regret to announce that the World Health Summit Regional Meeting, scheduled to take place April 27-28, 2020, will be postponed to a later date due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Makerere University won a bid to host this Summit for the first time it’s happening in Africa. Through the organizers of the World Health Summit in Berlin, We will keep you updated about the Regional Meeting in Kampala,” the statement reads.
The Virus, which started in China’s Wuhan City has already claimed thousands of lives despite efforts to have it managed to make sure that it does not spread further. Today morning we received reports that Kenya has confirmed its first COVID-19 case.
We will keep you posted!
