Brian Isiko, a student who was recently convicted of sending love messages to Kabarole Woman Member of Parliament, Sylivia Rwabwogo has been released by the High Court in Kampala .
Isiko, 25, had earlier last month been sentenced to two years’ imprisonment after being convicted of Cyber Harassment and Offensive Communication. He later appealed against the sentence and also applied for bail through his lawyers led by Ramathan Waiswa on Tuesday afternoon. The state prosecutor, Gladys Nyanzi objected to the bail application sighting that court was yet to receive substantial proof that he is a student at YMCA in Jinja. However, High Court judge Jane Francis Abodo has ordered for Isiko’s release on bail this morning after convincing court that he would honor the terms given.
One of the reasons for his release was that his two sureties presented Godfrey Waako, the Assistant Academic Registrar for Kyambogo University and Grace Reagan Muganza, a commander of the UPDF reserve forces, were found to be substantial hence guaranteeing his release. They were each ordered to pay five million shillings(non cash) by the judge. Further more, Isiko was ordered to pay shs500,000 in cash. He is also supposed to report to the court deputy registrar every third Friday of the month starting with August 17 and has been warned never to contact Sylivia Rwabwogo in anyway lest he is put back in the coolers.
