Lawyers, friends and followers are mourning Joan Asiigwire, a young Ugandan advocate who built an online following by breaking down land and property law in plain language.
News of her death spread on Monday, October 13. The cause of her death has not been officially confirmed.
Asiigwire shared her work under the name “Law with Joan Asiingwire,” focusing on land, property and construction law. Her posts walked would-be buyers through the checks to make before paying a deposit: confirming that a seller has the authority to sell, verifying boundaries and occupancy, and looking out for forged titles or family land sold without proper succession paperwork.
The Judiciary’s register of advocates lists her as Asiingwire Joan, enrolled on January 23, 2026, and attached to Barungi Bingana Advocates.
Tributes
Journalist Simon Kaggwa Njala remembered her online work explaining legal transactions. Lawyer Eron Kiiza used his tribute to encourage anyone struggling with depression to seek help from a doctor or a counsellor trained in mental health, ending his message: “Rest in peace, Joan.”
Brian Mutimba shared a photo of Asiigwire with fellow lawyers holding their certificates, writing that her absence would never be forgotten.
Many other mourners called for more open conversations about mental health among young professionals, and for people to listen without judgement and help those in distress find professional support.
Details of her funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
CampusBee extends its condolences to Asiigwire’s family, friends and colleagues.
If you need support
