Miss University Uganda 2016/17 Atuhaire Macklyne, the 1st Runners Up Tekitendwa Shiela and the 2nd Runners Up Alice Barlow have organized the “Save a life, Save a nation” car wash that will be taking place on the 22nd July, 2017 at Panamera Bar and Lounge.
The car wash is part of the Save A Life, Save A Nation campaign that featured in a story Campus Bee ran a couple of weeks ago.
Proceeds from the car wash will be used to purchase food especially Posho, Rice and Beans, medication among other items that will be later on transported and distributed in Teso, in the areas that have been most affected by the famine that is ravaging the eastern region and putting the lives of many Emorimori’s subjects (the traditional leader of Teso) at a risk of losing life. Some deaths have already been reported to have happened as a result of this famine.
The beauty queens are determined that the condition in Eastern and Northern Uganda does not continue like this “for our brothers and sisters” which hope they all carry with them during the campaign.
The car wash will be at Shs. 30,000 for the small cars and Shs. 50,000 for the big cars depending on the vouchers that will be given at the entrance of the venue.
Allan Hendrick, also son to Bebe Cool says he would not miss the car wash because is “passionate about charity.” He says he was moved by the noble cause that the three university students have initiated and would want not to miss being part of it.
“I encourage people to come for the car wash so that we support our dear brothers and sisters who are starving” says Atuhaire, the face of the campaign. She adds that the condition in Teso has led to many students dropping out of schools because the schools are unable to give food to them and she hopes that this campaign would be a positive change in the lives of the people in those areas.
The car wash event will also have other activities including a yard sale of a variety of household items, jewelry, wall hangings and performances from artists in the charity event.
“We need to come up and give what we can” she adds.
A couple of celebrities and politicians are lined up to make a presence at the car wash and the list is huge. Artists like Apass, John Marie, Levixone, presenters, MC Casmir, beauty queens from other institutions in Uganda, universities among others.
The car wash will start at 8 am till 7 pm on the 22nd of July.
