Elegantly written and laced up with blithe humour, Samuel Kamugisha’s Coursework Love is an interesting collection of short stories and poems that will keep your attention buried in the book, giggling, laughing, learning, and reminiscing.
The short stories and poems, 30 in number, will tickle your memories of your university escapades for those who have been there already, or fire up your craving if for those who are yet to join what the author calls The Hill of The Learned.
The pieces in the book are captivatingly woven with a rare legerdemain that manifests the author’s talent. In his maiden publication, Kamugisha tells of his life at campus and peeps into others’ campus lives: roommates, classmates, friends, student leaders and even lecturers at Makerere University.
From tales of exams written on thighs to students’ and lecturers’ strikes; from internship memoirs to warriors of love; from outings and dinners to sex; from students’ guild elections fanfare to coursework hassle, and other tales make this a brilliant anthology. Candid and bare, the language used by the writer breathes both life and wickedness into the short stories and poems, the contrast carrying lessons.
For those who know Kamugisha well, his handiness is a blend of talent and experience on university issues as a student, student leader and higher education reporter. His compilation is a good step into the journey of literature – you need to watch him.
The collection goes for Shs 10,000 and copies are available at Makerere University Student Guild offices while more points of sale will be communicated later.
