Bruno Collins Kiggundu, alias Bruno K, is an overwhelmingly talented singer, guitarist and songwriter. The Mukono-bred hunk, ranked as one of the best vocalists in Uganda is known for hit songs like Juicy Juicy (Acoustic), Turning Me On featuring Rabadaba, Nkooye Okkulowooza, and the most recent Reggae Banger: One For The Road.
His professional bit of music started with the Akon-headlined Airtel Trace Music Star, where he emerged first runner up to the ultimate winner, Sandra Ssuubi. The Bee managed to catch up with him for a chat, and guess what? I managed to get a live video of his sweet vocals for your consumption:
“I started singing when I was a toddler; singing has always been part of me, and if you say my journey started with Airtel Trace, then you’re mistaken.” Bruno challenged my assertion.
Rather with a boastful reiteration, the songster continued,
“I hail from a Catholic family and for that reason, I got chances to sing almost always. My parents could sense that it was my calling.”
Bruno K enrolled at Ndejje University for a Bachelor’s in Mass Communication, where his classmates say he failed to graduate from, due to missing papers. However, the young superstar commented thus,
“Going to Ndejje was my choice; I wasn’t influenced. After I failed to get the course I wanted at Makerere University, I couldn’t take other options – UCU was like home, since I’ve been in Mukono all my life. I had to change environment.” He vindicated.
With gentle caresses on his guitar, which he held by its neck and frets, as the curves of its bridge rested on his red converse shoes, he explicated,
“I am a bright guy. Given I was an evening student and all my lectures were over the weekend, I had to chop most of them since they interfered with my music schedule. But all in all, I got my transcripts and my parents know it. That’s all that matters to me.”
Bruno’s Airtel Trace fame came at a time when he was still at Campus, so I wondered how he dealt with the excessive attention from the attractive Campus girls,
“I am a very free guy, but I have my limits. All the people I have met know me. I am not stuck up like other musicians. And wouldn’t like to discuss my love life anymore; just know I’ve not had many serious relationships.” Wittily, he responded. However, he declined to comment on the name tattooed on his hand.
But hey, Bruno K made headlines recently; of beef with Ceaserous, and the rumoured bad blood with Dougy Nice and Washington. Still I didn’t get the expected response;
“Dougy Nice was just my mentor, not my manager. I was under Washington’s Power Bank management and we parted ways peacefully – we still work together where need be. About the others, I won’t talk about them. Let them do their own PR.”
Kiggundu is a very stylish fellow. I had to get some tips on this too,
“I am not the kind that likes tacking in; but as long as I am casual smart, I’m good to go.”
Finally, he quoted a Bible verse to the readers, before he blew me away with serenades,
“You are the head and not the tail.”
