When it comes to Ugandan media, Herbert Kityamuweesi also known as Crysto Panda is a household name. We can all agree to seeing him gracing our screens in a thing or two notably the fly campaign and NTV’s T nation among others. Samantha Agasha caught up with the star to bring you today’s exclusive.
Hello Crysto Luv , it’s a pleasure to make your acquaintance.
Thank you campus Bee (smiles) I actually changed my name to Crysto Panda.
Interesting, so why did you ‘-brand’? Your fans were accustomed to calling you Crysto Luv.
It was actually a personal choice derived from my love for the song panda by designer.
So should we expect you to change your names whenever you get a new favourite song?
(Laughs out loud) No, just this once.
So, Tell us who is Crysto Panda?
I’m a 22-year-old media personality, events Mcee, organizer and fashionista. (He says this while boosting with pride), I hope you know I am nominated in this year’s Abryanz style and Fashion awards in the category of best dressed Media personality (I nod in a agreement) it’s a distinguished honour. Ooh, and I’m a strong believer in Christ too?
Tell me about life at campus, what is it like to be a celebrity student?
Well am a first year student at Data mine technical business school doing a diploma in journalism and communication. Well it’s the best , you get favoured by everyone, everybody wants to be friends with you but it gets irritating with the ones who stare at me a lot ?.
So do you get favoured by teachers , sometimes chop lectures?
No, I work for whatever I get. Besides I pay my own tuition so I take my books seriously. I do miss lectures at times but I make up for the lost time by consulting in my free time, (That’s hard to believe).
How do you balance books with work and your celebrity status ?
It’s not an easy go because I put my work first (confused , shouldn’t your books come first?) Yes but my work is prior because I pay my own tuition (Huh! okay). I schedule all my activities both academic and social which helps me ideally to keep on track.
What’s your biggest challenge so far?
Myself, I always compete with my own self.
Have you ever considered yourself better than your classmates?
As per now, I’m better than all the new presenters on TV and Mcee’s in my era because if you look at the awards and nominations I’ve got in just the one year I have spent on TV, that means I’m the people’s choice of TV presenter.
Do you think you have haters?
I don’t think I have haters I just have competitors who think they are better than me but to me I know I’m competing myself.
Any last words to youth out there?
Do not be Crysto Panda, be better. It doesn’t matter where you come from but where you are heading. Also follow me on my social media platforms @Crysto Panda and watch my show T nation Saturday 11am only on NTV Uganda.
