The Uganda National Students’ Association (UNSA) has officially announced the electoral roadmap for the upcoming National Students’ Council elections.
According to the roadmap shared by UNSA Speaker Wasswa Christopher, there are various key activities leading up to the Annual General Meeting (AGM) and elections.
The process begins with district and institutional elections, which are to be completed by November 5, 2024, to determine the delegates who will participate in the national council.
Districts, institutions, and universities are required to conclude their internal elections by November 5, allowing them to select and confirm their delegates to the UNSA council. These elections will be overseen by district coordinators and respective guilds.
From November 5 to November 15, lists of delegates from districts will be forwarded to the UNSA Secretariat for compilation, while institutions and university delegates will undergo registration during this period.
The draft register of delegates will be displayed from November 16 to November 30, allowing for any necessary corrections. During this time, petitions and cases related to the delegate register will be reviewed by a dispute resolution and arbitration committee.
On December 2, the UNSA Secretariat will display the final election register, signifying the confirmation of delegates eligible to vote.
Nominations for candidates in the UNSA elections will take place from December 3 to December 6.
The final list of nominated candidates will be made public on December 9, setting the stage for the elections.
UNSA’s Annual General Meeting and elections will be held from December 19 to December 23, overseen by the UNSA Speaker and the returning officer.
