Yesterday (11th October 2021) the High Court in Mbarara sent a group of 29 students of Bishop Stuart University (BSU) to remand till the 9th November 2021. This followed the arrest of BSU Guild President Abaho Wilson Mugisha and his aides after causing a fatal accident which involved two people and one lost his life.
It said that in the evening of 23rd September 2021, a car registration number UBF 614W that was driven by Mugisha knocked two people in Kakoba leaving one dead and another with serious injuries.
One of the sources revealed that after the accident, the injured person Charity Ashemeirwe was rushed to Mbarara Regional referral hospital where’s still nursing wounds. On inspection, it was found out that driver was drunk without a driving permit and the vehicle was not having a third-party license.
“After the accident, Mugisha didn’t take responsibility of the damages he caused to the victims’ families. The family of the deceased reported the case to Mbarara CPS which issued a warrant to have Mugisha arrested,” a source that preferred anonymity.
“On his arrest, his aides thought that he was being arrested for political reasons at the University. Through force, the cell where Mugisha was being kept at the University was broken and they got him out. Immediately they stormed the Vice chancellors and Academic Registrar’s offices only to find them locked. The anger was then diverted onto the university secretary. He was locked up in his office by the angry students. In the process, police from Mbarara deployed more personnel to calm down the situation which saw a number of students, Guild President, ministers and GRCs to be arrested,” the source narrated further.
