The Guild bodies across Ugandan universities through their health departments have organized a joint university health symposium.
The symposium is set to be held virtually on Saturday 14th August 2021 under the theme ‘’Effects of covid-19 on the mental health of students and how students can be effectively contribute to the fight against the pandemic’’
The guild health ministers have partnered with a number of mental health experts to directly talk to students who among the victims of covid-19 related effects. The speakers of the day are Mr. Muyingo Shariff councilor MUBS, Ms. Juliet Katerega Dean of students MUBS, Ms. Catherine Abaho and Prof Pauline Byakika both from Makerere College of health sciences.
Other areas to be tackled include how to deal with depression, PTSD, anxiety, suicide prevention.
While talking to Hon. Kisakye Maureen the guild health minister at Mbarara University of Science and Technology said that this symposium is aimed at addressing mental health issues among the youth in these difficult times of the pandemic.
‘’The symposium is aimed at enlightening students on what they have to do as the whole world is still in the fight against covid-19. In this period, many youths especially students are having mental health related issues which need to be addressed urgently,’’ she told Campus Bee.
Participating universities include Muni, Makerere, MUBS, Gulu and Mbarara University.
