Makerere University Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic Affairs), Umar Kakumba has revealed that all medical students scheduled to report for studies this week will be sleeping in halls of residence.
Kakumba was speaking to NTV about the university’s preparedness to resume medical studies on 13th August as resolved by the Ministry of Education and the National Council For Higher Education.
“We are going to prepare two halls of residence where all medical students will be sleeping when they return. One hall will be for girls and another one for boys,” Kakumba said.
It should be recalled that some students preferred to sleep in hostels and rentals outside the university premises. The move to have all medical students sleep in halls is among the measures taken by the institution to reduce movements, which will in turn slow the spread of COVID-19.
Kakumba explained that medical students will not find a hard time with observing SOPs since they are the future medical practitioners/health workers.
Among other measures, all medical students are expected to wear face masks while in lectures, laboratories and other gatherings, wash their hands before entering lecture rooms, as well as making sure that there is social distancing on campus.
More updates on reopening will be falling in folks!
