Julius Kateregga, the Makerere University Guild President has officially replaced Ahmed Abdirahman who recently resigned as the university’s Academic Affairs Minister over alleged unethical conduct of the 85th guild leader.
Drama has however unfolded when Kateragga decided to appoint Sheemah Jackson Mayambala as the new Academic Affairs Minister which is expected to take effect immediately.
“Subject to article 22(j) and 22110 of the Students Guild Constitution, I hereby appoint Hon. Mayarnbala Sheema Jackson as the Guild Minister for Academics Affairs. I also appoint Hon. Mubiru Kevin as the Minister for Off-Campus Affairs. The changes are to align the guild government agenda with service delivery and fulfilment of guild government priorities.” Kateregga’s letter reads in part.
Kateregga further ordered Abdirahman to hand over all statements of guild financial transactions and Guild Cabinet property to the relevant offices.
“We thank Hon. Ahmed Abdirahman for his dedicated service as Minister For Academics Affairs and pledge to support him in his future endeavors. Likewise, we require that he hands over all statements of Guild financial transactions and Guild Cabinet property and financial transactions in his possession to the relevant offices.” The letter reads further.
In his resignation letter, Abdirahman also accused Kateregga of mixing student leaders’ struggle with national politics.
