Institutions of learning are to remain closed for more days as President Museveni frees up the economy in phases starting tonight, Campus Bee has learned.
One of the attendees of the meeting held Thursday between the National COVID-19 taskforce and the president informed Campus Bee that the sitting resolved to hold schools a bit longer categorizing them as one of the “super spreaders” of the Coronavirus.
It should be recalled that in the month of May, Kyambogo University sparked panic amongst higher learning institutions after over 40 students tested positive for COVID-19. The occurrence happened a few days before the president declared a 42 lockdown
The taskforce in that cause suggested that schools and institutions get isolation centers to manage positive cases that arise within, in the run of the semesters/terms.
The challenge that remains a big issue is how students can be kept safe while at school, one of the points posed in the task force meeting with president.
The state minister for primary education, Dr Joyce Kaducu this week hinted on the move of having university students vaccinated before the resume their physical classes. She revealed the move owing to the fact that these students are majorly above 18 years, and are fit for most of the covid vaccine jabs
The education and health ministries are considering a way of procuring abundant vaccines which could put students in a better health position once they are vaccinated.
Results announced today by the Health ministry indicate 393 new Covid cases which takes the cumulative number to 93675 whereas 23 new deaths putting the number of fatalities at 2661.
