Today was the third day and final day of the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) and Daily Monitor organised Careers Expo for 2021 dubbed the #NSSFExpo2021.
The online event, due to the ‘new normal’ has had panel discussions with several speakers across diverse topics to reach out to the several young people at university and fresh out of Campus students – most of whom are shaping their careers for a life ahead.
Day three attracted among others, the Team Leader of Innovation Village Mr. Japheth C. Kawanguzi and Ms. Juliana Kaggwa the Head of Corporate Relations at Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL).
Mr. Kawanguzi emphasized social and community impact first to be able to create a long lasting impression in the business world. According to him, money can come along the way, but it shouldn’t be the sole reason.
“Don’t look at starting a business as a way to get money to survive. If you’re lucky enough to conceptualise a business, it’s not just to survive but rather to do something that will impact your community and country.” He said.
The other speaker, Ms Kaggwa, who was streamed for her discussion advised young people to put their passion first. The expert PR officer, used her own example to stress why it is important to always follow your passion in order to shape a great career ahead.
“I am supposed to be a lab technician since my first degree was in food technology, because of my passion for communication and love for storytelling, I had to find my way to marketing and recently corporate relations.” She narrated.
She joins, Ms Emma Mugisha the Stanbic Bank ED who made the same observations yesterday. Ms Mugisha, who studied Social Work and Social Administration (SWASA) at Makerere University didn’t ever imagine she would ever excel in Banking after failing to be offered Mathematics for her A-level. But here she is.
The panel discussions have been hosted by NTV News Anchor Sandra Kahumuza Twinoburyo, a former student of Journalism and Mass Communication at Makerere University.
