The sudden passing of Timothy Muganzi Magambo, an 18-year-old Ugandan-American student who had just completed his first year at the University at Albany, has left family, friends, and communities in both the United States and Uganda mourning the loss of a bright and promising young man.
Timothy passed away on May 16, 2026, in Pelham Manor, New York.
Born in Kampala, Uganda, on September 24, 2007, Timothy was the eldest child of Tom Magambo and Caroline Nalwanga. He spent part of his childhood between Kampala and Rwanda before relocating to the United States at the age of seven, where he settled with his family in Pelham, New York.
At the time of his passing, Timothy had just completed his freshman year at the University at Albany, where he was pursuing a degree in Business Management and Finance — a path that reflected his growing passion for entrepreneurship, leadership, and financial markets.
Friends and relatives describe Timothy as an ambitious, intelligent, and compassionate young man whose future held immense promise.
Before joining university, Timothy attended Colonial Elementary School and later graduated from Pelham Memorial High School, where he distinguished himself both academically and socially. He was a member of the National Honor Society and actively participated in student leadership, serving in several capacities including senator-at-large, school-wide treasurer, and class president.
Beyond academics, Timothy excelled in sports, playing lacrosse, soccer, and football. He also mentored fellow students through peer leadership programs and served as co-vice president of the Breast Cancer Awareness Club.
Those close to him say Timothy had a unique ability to connect with people through meaningful conversations, kindness, and optimism. He loved music, gaming with friends, stock trading, and volunteering within his community.
Despite living abroad, Timothy maintained strong ties to Uganda. Every summer and Christmas holiday, he traveled back home to spend time with family and support vulnerable children by donating school supplies and clothing to orphanages and disadvantaged communities.
Family members say his generosity and warm spirit defined his life.
“He was always willing to help others, even at his own inconvenience,” one family member shared. “Timothy cared deeply about people and always carried himself with kindness and humility.”
Timothy is survived by his parents, Tom Magambo and Caroline Nalwanga; his younger brother Jonathan; his grandmothers Elizabeth Museeta and Proscovia Lwanga; grandfather Francis Kaweesa; and several extended family members and friends. He was predeceased by his grandfather, Francis Museeta.
Funeral services celebrating Timothy’s life will be held at Pelham Funeral Home on Thursday, May 21, 2026, followed by a second viewing and funeral service at Huguenot Memorial Church on Friday, May 22, 2026.
